The reserves ventured out to Toorak park to find a Prahran team that was clearly ready for a fight. Prahran started well and by the 1st break had set up a 6 point lead. However, once the Panthers had the breeze at their back, they quickly turned the quarter time break into a lead by the time the siren sounded for half time. The first half was a genuine fight, with the tackling the key factor that set up the lead. Tony Bournon played his usual role, making the most of each opportunity, and Matty Elliot seemed to be in the way almost every time Prahran tried to go through their half forward line. The experience of these two veterans allowed some of the young guns to run hard and take the chances that set up the goal opportunities. Piran Gartner kept running hard through the midfield, and off the backline, whilst his opponents tried to keep up. And Arthur Kiantos stepped up his game yet again, taking the opportunity to play in the midfield, and making every post a winner. The "premiership quarter" was certainly going to test both teams, however Prahran used the ball well with the breeze, and found avenues to goal with too little resistance from the Panthers. By the last break, we trailed by 18 points, and although we fought the game out well, it was just too big a gap to claw back. The return of Keith Biggs after a long recovery from knee surgery was a welcome sight to all Panther supporters, and his class, and commitment to his team mates will surely see him in contention for the senior team very soon. Next week sees us back at home to take on Yarra Valley Old Boys. It is obviously important to return to the winners list, and make sure that we celebrate Tony Bournon's 350oth game in style. We urge everyone to make the effort to get down to Keysy early to see Tony run out for this milestone game.
OMFC: 1.1 1.1 3.3 4.5 (29)
Goal Kickers: R. Howard 2, K. Goulding, J. Lumsden
Best Players: S. Royston,
The Under 19's battled hard against Old Brighton at Keysborough on Saturday, but were unable to match a stronger, more mature side. Once again we let the opposition get away to an early lead and were unable to catch up. Two more new players, Heber Constanza and Scott Royston, were welcomed to the team, taking the total of players to represent the Under 19's this year to 35. Kyle Goulding continued his good form in the ruck and he was well supported by Scott Royston. Scott, recruited to the club under the "father-son" rule played well and showed great promise. Jarrod Lumsden and Brett Felsenthal were also good, with Brett picking up many possessions playing in the mid-field. Others to play well were Lachlan Stanley , Sam Kent and our captain, James Fisher. The fact that these three players were defenders reflects the fact that iour back line was under a lot of pressure during the game, and without their efforts the difference in the scores would have been much greater. When the ball did go forward Ross Howard (2 goals) and Cam Labrooy gave us something to aim at . However, the ball did not get into our forward line often enough for us to make and impact.
