Round 12 v Old Carey: Lost by 87, Ressies: Lost by 26

18th July 2006

Reigning club champion Peter Flaskis played his 150th game for the Old Mentonians on Saturday, but his team mates could not help make this a memorable celebration.  The Panthers travelled to Bulleen to play Old Carey, and were shown the reason why Carey are on top of the ladder.

On a cold and wet day the Old Mentonians were given a lesson in how to play wet weather football, with Carey playing in front all day and teaming well to continually push the ball forward.  The Panthers, however, failed repeatedly to commit themselves to working as hard as was required in the conditions.

Matthew Austin again played well in the ruck and Michael Watts stood out in defence where he was ably assisted by the much improved Paul Mevel.

This week’s games see the club returning to Keysborough, where the senior and reserves’ teams take on Rupertswood. The Under 19’s continue to take all before them, and are now secure in third spot and now play second placed Mazenod in the Under 19 match of the day.
