ROUND 2 UPDATE- SENIORS, RESSIES AND U19's MATCH DAY REPORTS
21st April 2008
SENIORS:
PANTHERS WIN 2nd IN A ROW AGAINST A STRONG YARRA VALLEY OUTFIT
The senior team headed out to Domeney Reserve to take on a Yarra Valley side keen to make amends for their round one loss against Prahran. Knowing Yarra to be a side to never give up, and with a poor track record against them at Domeny in recent years, we knew we’d be up for a tough day.
With Mitvalsky back in the side to take on the job against Keem and first gamer David Teasedale in great form up forward, the Panther knew we had every chance to take out the four points.
The first quarter saw the OMFC with plenty of the ball but unable to capitalise on the score board due to some inaccurate kicking for goal and some undisciplined play.
Starting the second quarter 7 points down the boys rallied and played some great team football to put on an 8 goal quarter, while keeping Yarra to just 1 goal. This saw us go into the main break nearly six goals up.
Despite a solid charge by Yarra in the second half, the Panthers were able to keep it together through the great efforts of our young chargers, namely Norton, Tickell and Speers, combined with a brilliant first game by Teasa.
A great overall team performance has meant we have now won the first two games of the season and can look forward to next week’s clash against top of the table North Old Boys.

PANTHERS GRAB THEIR FIRST WIN IN DEVESTATING FASHION
The Reserves team put in a fantastic 4 quarter performance to win their 1st game of the season at Domeney Reserve against Yarra Valley Old Boys.
The YarraValley team had come to play, with this being a milestone game for one of their favourite players. The 1st quarter was a really tough battle, with goals being traded early. Nick Fisher was the difference between the 2 teams early, with his great attack and run through the midfield, combined with a cheeky 3 goals, setting up a Panther lead of 14 points at the 1st break.
YarraValley kept putting on the pressure in the 2nd quarter; however their inaccurate kicking combined with the Panthers’ great tackling and pressure ensured we still led at the main break. The skipper Daryl Stevens, lead by example with his tackling, and attack on the footy, consistently doing the hard, team oriented things to show the way.
The Panthers regrouped at half time and came out and playing with plenty of intent and run. 7 Goals were piled on in the 3rd term, with the spoils being shared amongst the forwards, as well as young Jake Moon pushing forward from the midfield. Meanwhile the back 6, led by Dave Alexander, gave very little opportunity for the home team to score.
Overall it was a most impressive win that really sets up the season, and sends a strong message to the rest of the competition.
Although the result was secured by the ¾ time siren, the Panthers, inspired by Pete Monahan’s 2 Goals on the run ,continued to work hard and blew the Yarra boys away with a further 8 goals. An amazing effort considering there were no fit players on the bench.
Overall it was a most impressive win that really sets up the season, and sends a strong message to the rest of the competition.
Next week sees the boys venture out to Brunswick to take on North Old Boys/St Pats.

UNDER 19's
Close Call for Under 19’s in Round 2 against Collegians.
The OMFC Under 19’s were unlucky to lose their round two game at Collegians on Saturday. The lead changed several times throughout what was a high standard game, with Collegians managing to hang on to a seven point lead at the final siren.
The Panthers were given first use of the ball on many occasions, with Kyle Goulding playing well and giving Jamie Brohier and Kiefer Smith-Cameron the chance to clear the ball from the centre. When the ball went forward Mitch Brown continued his good form at centre half forward with three goals and his strong marking was a highlight. Mark Gledhill was also dominant, playing the small forward’s role well and finishing the game with five goals.
Daniel Hull was strong in the back line and, Jarrod Lumsden also played well. The Garside brothers, Dan and Tom, both playing their first games for the Club were dominant on their respective wings.
The Panthers went into the last quarter trailing by one point, however were unable to peg back Collegians who managed to kick a late goal to cement their win.
